Solheim, the "House of the Sun," captures the essence of Scandi design with its minimalist beauty and practical functionality. Redesigned in 2010 by architects Smith and Vansant, this south-facing home optimizes passive solar design and photovoltaic generation, nearing net-zero energy with 37 PV panels. The Finnish Tulikivi Soapstone wood stove provides gentle heat, complemented by mini-split heat pumps for year-round comfort. The airy atmosphere is achieved through the open floor plan and natural light. The main level also includes a full bath and study, while the upper levels offer flexible bedroom arrangements. A large deck and screened-in porch overlook the brook, and an outdoor shower is found off the back. The garden, designed with Ben Falk of Whole Systems Design, features winding stone paths, a small garden pond, stone terraces and perennial beds to create an intentional design that nourishes the soul.

Additional structures include a cottage with a kitchenette, sleeping lofts, porch, and Swedish composting toilet, perfect for guests or as a place to write. A studio with a kitchen and bath provides artist's light and valley views above the apple and pear orchard. A winterized "Tiny House" cabin with a deck overlooking a beaver pond is accessed via a woodland trail. The barn offers two parking bays, a workshop, and extra storage.

Protected on three sides by the Upper Valley Land Trust, National Forest, and Norwich Town Forest, Solheim ensures privacy and tranquility with miles of trails (.5 miles from AT) for hiking, x-c skiing, and biking. It is conveniently located 12 minutes from I-89/I-91, 20 minutes from Dartmouth, 15 minutes from Quechee and 25 minutes from Woodstock.
