Built in 1991 as a family compound, Whale’s Ledge enjoys the quiet of island life, but conveniences of a small, year-round community with limited ferry service, a store, restaurant, library and bed and breakfast. The family compound, sited high over the harbor to take advantage of the captivating views, includes three residences with a wonderful main house and many outdoor decks. All of the rooms take advantage of the incredible views. The property consists of 26.21± acres with 1,500'± of shorefront, and includes a private deepwater pier and four yacht moorings in the protected harbor.
The main house, known as Big Whale, has a large living room with cathedral ceiling and fireplace with granite hearth. The kitchen opens to the dining room, and all rooms enjoy the views from the oversize windows; a large deck with built-in seating is accessed by several sliding glass doors. There is a wine cellar and a second floor bunk room. ‘Little Whale’, the master bedroom suite, has a fireplace and is connected to the main house by an expansive deck. There is also a master bathroom, writing and dressing areas in Little Whale.
The guest house, higher on the hill and known as Sheep Shed, includes two bedrooms on the first floor and a bunk room on the second floor. A living/dining area includes a galley kitchen and there are two full baths. Little Ewe also has multiple decks from which to enjoy the views, and includes a utility/laundry room and additional full bath. There is an additional storage area for gardening equipment and generator.
The grounds of Whale’s Ledge have been carefully planted with colorful perennials, ferns and trees, and rock and moss paths wind throughout the property. A brook with a powered waterfall creates additional interest.
Whale’s Ledge is a perfect island retreat offering many possibilities for relaxing, entertaining or exploring the many miles of protected hiking paths located on Frenchboro.
